針對台中市長胡志強表示，他之所以爭取連任是因為不放心「對手」，民進黨台中市長參選人、立委林佳龍回應表示，不管胡志強所指的對手是誰，市民放心最重要，胡志強的說法是「多慮了」。

對於爭取連任，胡志強在宣布參選的記者會上表示「放手容易放心難」，而他在接受媒體採訪時也重申，如果要將市政交給目前可能的「對手」，不放心台中會繼續好好走。

對此，林佳龍則說，從多次民調結果顯示，台中市民的人心思變已是不爭的事實，多數市民認同台中需要改變，不管胡志強所指的「對手」是國民黨內、外的對手，都是多慮了。
