編劇想用披頭四的這首 Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (LSD) ，來影射當年披頭四為了創作，經常吸食毒品。1967 年以前，LSD 是毒品之一。但 1968 年後，醫學界發現微量的 LSD 可以用來治療精神病。而 Sam 就有精神分面的缺陷。
披頭四的確以毒品來刺激靈感，寫了不少好歌。但這首 Lucy in the sky with dismonds 卻跟毒品毫無關係。原來此歌的靈感，是來自約翰藍儂的兒子 Julian 念幼稚園時，因喜歡班上的一位女生 Lucy，而為她畫了 一幅名為 Lucy -- in the sky with diamonds 的畫。可能是兒歌 "一閃一閃亮晶晶" Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star 的歌詞中有一句 Like a diamond in the sky。Julian 把 Lucy 看成是天上的星星，像鑽石一般在天上閃爍。
Lucy in the sky with diamonds 雖然一度被禁唱，但 1968 年後，風行全球，這張單曲唱片大賣。後來還被許多名歌手翻唱。像 Elton John 在 1974 年就翻唱此歌， 一樣大受歡迎。編劇認為 Sam 也一定會喜歡這首歌。因此，當 Sam 看到剛出生的女兒，就聯想到 Lucy 這個名字。
