大貓熊「團團」、「圓圓」二○○八年底抵台；三年後，「團團」、「圓圓」終於性成熟，園方首度嘗試讓牠們親熱。

台北市立動物園發言人趙明杰回憶「團團」、「圓圓」第一次「嘿休」時說，公貓熊「團團」第一次提槍上陣，沒有經驗，保育員擔心母貓熊「圓圓」不適，兩隻貓熊會打架，還準備蘋果串、竹筍串來引誘。

無奈「團團」是個二愣子，只顧著跟「圓圓」玩，園方只好為小兩口進行人工受精，做了兩次都失敗。隔年「團團」仍表現不佳。

趙明杰說，當時有人建議播放貓熊交配影片讓「團團」觀摩，也嘗試播放母貓熊發情叫聲給「團團」聽，但都失敗。

趙明杰說，「圓圓」今年三月十八日至十九日，密集接受三次人工受精；六月十二日起，開始不愛吃東西，不想到展示場，也不願意讓保育員為牠進行超音波檢查，大陸專家研判，「圓圓」應是懷孕了。

果不其然，「圓圓」七月六日下午四點開始陣痛，當晚八點五分，順利產下小寶寶「圓仔」。
